Job description

Position Summary: Cooley's Technology Department is seeking an accomplished Senior Technology Manager to lead the Office Technology Specialist (OTS) team in London and Brussels. This critical position will report directly to the Director of Technology Office Operations (Asia) and play a key role in delivering best-in-class technology support across both offices.

The primary responsibilities include effective team leadership, robust stakeholder engagement, and a strong commitment to service excellence for our lawyers and business professionals. Additionally, the Senior Technology Manager will collaborate extensively with global, cross-functional technical teams and the Service Desk, as well as partner with other Business Professional teams throughout the region on both regional and local initiatives, to ensure exceptional service delivery to the firm and its clients.

Position responsibilities:

  • Team Leadership & Management: Lead, mentor, and develop the OTS team across London and Brussels, fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture. Drive team engagement, manage performance, and support professional development to ensure consistent, high-quality service delivery.
  • Service Delivery Excellence: Champion a user-centric approach, ensuring prompt, effective, and courteous technology support for lawyers and business professionals. Set and monitor service standards, troubleshoot complex issues, and ensure the offices' technology needs are met efficiently.
  • Stakeholder Management: Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including partners, lawyers, and support staff. Understand their technology requirements, proactively address challenges, and communicate complex technical concepts in a clear, business-friendly manner. Act as an escalation point for complex issues and ensure prompt resolution.
  • Operational Oversight: Manage daily technology operations in both the London and Brussels offices, making sure activities align with global technology strategies and comply with regulatory and information security standards.
  • Continuous Improvement: Identify and implement process improvements, technology upgrades, and best practices to enhance service delivery, user satisfaction, and operational efficiency. Ensure that all changes, updates, and new procedures are thoroughly documented and proactively shared across relevant teams, promoting transparency, knowledge transfer, and consistency throughout the organisation.
  • Project Management: Lead or support office and global technology projects, collaborating with cross-functional teams and ensuring timely, successful implementation aligned with business goals.
  • Oversee hardware lifecycle (laptops, peripherals, AV equipment) and coordinate with procurement.
  • Maintain accurate asset records and ensure compliance with firm standards.
  • Budget: Work with the regional Technology Director to identify local office needs for the global budget. Monitor spending, highlight any differences, and suggest solutions or options for service improvements.
  • Oversee compliance with firm policies, data protection regulations, and client requirements.
  • Ensure robust processes for change management, incident handling, and business continuity.
  • Support security initiatives and maintain a strong risk posture.
  • Vendor Management: Maintain vendor relationships, negotiate contracts, and ensure compliance and reliability.

Requirements

  • At least 7 years in leadership or management role; experience at global law firms or similar professional services is preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree, preferably in engineering or computer field or equivalent technical certifications.
  • Extensive experience with law firm applications and systems, including Microsoft Office suite, document management, time recording, and billing platforms.
  • Proven leadership of high-performing teams with an emphasis on team development.
  • Extensive experience generating capital and operating expenditure budget reports.
  • Solid understanding of laptops, desktops, and mobile devices (Windows, iOS/Android).
  • Familiarity with peripherals (printers, scanners, headsets, monitors).
  • Basic knowledge of AV equipment for meeting rooms (video conferencing systems).
  • Awareness of network connectivity basics (LAN/Wi-Fi troubleshooting).
  • Experience with hardware lifecycle management (procurement, asset tracking, refresh).
  • Knowledge of office server rooms, including maintaining equipment such as UPS, patch panels, and cabling, and coordinating with infrastructure teams for upgrades and repairs.
  • Familiarity with Data Center and Cloud Technologies.
  • Familiarity with compliance standards (ISO 27001, GDPR) and client audit processes.
  • Strong understanding of IT service management principles.
  • Ability to work extended and/or weekend hours, as required.
  • Ability to travel, as required.
