Job description

We are looking for a Senior Full Stack Developer with a strong focus on Python, AWS, microservices, and ideally, experience working within React-based environments. This role will be instrumental in building and maintaining the backend services that power our climate risk models and resilience solutions. You will work closely with software development and climate science colleagues to create scalable, reliable, and high-performance systems that deliver seamless client experiences., * Take full ownership of the design, delivery, and performance of core backend services powering our climate risk and resilience platform.

  • Architect, build, and scale secure, production-grade microservices in Python on AWS, ensuring reliability, resilience, and long-term maintainability.
  • Drive technical decision-making across system design, infrastructure, and deployment patterns, shaping the evolution of our architecture as the platform grows.
  • Work autonomously in a fast-paced, evolving environment, balancing speed with engineering rigour while adapting to shifting priorities and new client requirements.
  • Partner closely with data scientists to productionise climate models, translating complex analytical outputs into scalable, high-performance APIs and services.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with frontend engineers (React) to deliver seamless end-to-end functionality and an exceptional client experience.
  • Own system reliability in production - implementing monitoring, observability, testing frameworks, and proactive performance optimisation.
  • Identify bottlenecks, technical debt, and architectural risks early, and take initiative to design pragmatic, scalable solutions.
  • Champion engineering best practices, high coding standards, and AI-assisted development workflows that increase velocity without compromising quality.

Requirements

  • Proven experience (3-5 years) as a backend developer with proficiency in Python, AWS services (Lambda, S3, RDS, etc.), and microservices architectures.
  • Familiarity with frontend frameworks, especially React, and how they integrate with backend services.
  • Strong understanding of RESTful APIs and data management using SQL/NoSQL databases.
  • Experience in deploying and managing cloud-based applications, including working with CI/CD pipelines.
  • Familiarity with serverless architectures and designing highly scalable backend solutions.
  • Ability to write well-tested, clean, and efficient code, and experience working in an Agile development environment.
