Whether they are websites, the evidence heard by inquiries or the algorithms which support official decision-making, the survival of our digital public records is vital. The National Archives is the archive of UK Government and the courts. We preserve and provide access to the UK's public records. Our strategy describes our ambition to be an inclusive, entrepreneurial and disruptive archive. Our digital records are steadily growing in diversity and complexity and we need you to help us build new services that will collect, preserve and provide access to this nationally important resource. In this role, your work will ensure that today's digital records are accessible to future generations of citizens, researchers and historians. ResponsibilitiesAbout you:You are passionate about technology and your own skills development. We are looking for a data storage systems engineer who thrives on working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams. This is an opportunity to work with similarly committed and talented engineers, developers, archivists and researchers who share a passion for creating high quality, user-focused digital services for a range of audiences. About the role:The Data Storage Engineer will have broad technical knowledge plus hands-on experience of a wide range of storage technologies and will play a key role in building, developing and maintaining our existing infrastructure, ensuring its efficient operation and high availability. The engineer will also contribute to the development of new innovative digital products and services, designed to accelerate the flow of digital records into the archive, preserve them for generations to come and open up access to this important resource for diverse audiences. The role will require collaboration with colleagues across The National Archives and liaison with external suppliers too. It will be varied and challenging and you will have the opportunity to develop your skills as you contribute to the work of The National Archives. This is a full time post. However, requests for part-time working, flexible working and job share will be considered, taking into account at all times the operational needs of the Department. This role is primarily based at our Kew site, some remote working will be possible. SC-level Security Clearance or willingness to obtain SC clearance is mandatory for this role and requires that you have lived in the UK for the last 3 years.
