Job description
The scientific activity will be part of the SPM4.0 project, an innovative Marie Curie Skłodowska Doctoral Network (https://spm40.eu/). The doctoral candidate will join the Advanced Force Microscopy Laboratory (R. Garcia's group) in the Instituto de Ciencia de Materiales de Madrid (https://wp.icmm.csic.es/forcetool/). The group is a leader in the development of advanced force microscopy instruments and their applications in materials sciences and biophysics. The project will involve the close interaction with scientists from nine EU universities and research centers. Doctoral Candidate Research Project The objective of the research project of the doctoral candidate is to develop and/or implement machine learning codes into an AFM for fast, accurate and autonomous characterization of materials, biomolecules and living cells. To achieve it the doctoral candidate will -Develop/implement a supervised machine learning (SML) algorithm to map in real time the topographic and nanomechanical properties. -The integrated AFM and SML system will be applied to (i) real-time topography and nanomechanical properties of electrodes in energy storage devices (ii) real-time imaging of biomolecular interactions Where The ICMM is located at university and technological Campus of Cantoblanco which offers a rich and diverse variety of scientific, recreational and social activities. Requirements
Bachelor Degree or equivalent
Research Field Chemistry
Education Level Bachelor Degree or equivalent, Bachelor Degree or equivalent, Candidates with a degree in Physics, Chemistry, Biotechnology or Engineering are welcome. The candidate should have a Master degree before the start of the contract to be eligible. The starting date: No later than September 1st, 2026.
- Candidates must NOT have a doctoral degree at the date of the starting of the contract.
- Candidates must comply with the mobility rule: NOT have resided or carried out his/her main activity (living, work, studies, etc.) in the Host Institution Country (Spain) for more than 12 months in the 36 months at the date of the starting of the contract (recruitment date).

Benefits & conditions
The doctoral position is fully funded by the EUROPEAN RESEARCH EXECUTIVE AGENCY through the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions & Support to Experts Project: 101168976 (SPM4.0). Salary in accordance with the MSCA-DN 2023 regulations; the salary will comprise of living and mobility allowances amounting 3700 €/month (before taxes and social security expenses), and if applicable a family allowance (660 €).
