Job description

The Configuration Management (CM) Engineer is part of the Digital Delivery function and reports to the Configuration Management Lead. You will support a wide range of project configuration management activities while developing your professional skills and gaining experience in a highly regulated and innovative engineering environment.

This is an exciting opportunity to begin your career contributing to a First of a Kind (FOAK) Small Modular Reactor (SMR) programme. You will work within a supportive team, helping to ensure accurate configuration information, effective change management and good digital practice across the project. The role is well suited to someone early in their career who is curious, adaptable and enthusiastic about developing their expertise in configuration management and digital engineering., * Support the implementation of the CM Plan and learn how CM processes and procedures are applied across a major nuclear programme.

  • Assist in maintaining and improving CM processes, procedures, tools and ways of working.
  • Contribute to monitoring supplier CM activities under guidance from senior colleagues.
  • Provide basic CM guidance and help signpost tools and processes to wider team members as you develop your own knowledge.
  • Support the establishment and maintenance of configuration baselines by gathering and checking structured product configuration information.
  • Assist in reviewing configuration changes to ensure completeness, accuracy and quality.
  • Help produce status reports and data summaries to support project needs.
  • Contribute to the adoption of modern digital tools and good information management practices.
  • Engage with stakeholders across engineering, digital and project delivery functions to support CM activities.
  • Participate in configuration reviews and audits, helping to identify conformance issues and capture actions.
  • Assist with the administration and integration of engineering and information management tools used by the CM team.
  • Support physical and functional configuration audit activities under supervision.
  • Help deliver and test digital tools that improve the management of data on the SMR Project.
  • Work collaboratively with information management colleagues to support the accuracy and quality of configuration information.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a STEM discipline (e.g., engineering, physics, maths, computer science or similar).
  • Typically 1-2 years' experience in a technical, engineering, digital or project environment
  • An interest in configuration management, systems engineering, digital engineering or information management.
  • Awareness or basic understanding of configuration management principles and processes
  • Exposure to digital or engineering tools (e.g., CAD/PLM systems, document management systems, data platforms) is beneficial.
  • Willingness to learn CM tools such as Teamcenter, Windchill or similar systems.
  • Awareness of regulated or safety critical project environments (nuclear, aerospace, defence, rail, energy) is helpful but not essential.
  • An interest in emerging technologies and digital methods for managing engineering data.
  • Ability to adapt to change, work with ambiguity and contribute in a fast paced project environment.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Curiosity, attention to detail and a proactive approach to problem solving.
  • Qualifications (Graduate Level)
  • Bachelor's degree in a STEM subject (required).
  • Training or introductory certifications in CM, project management or systems engineering (e.g., CM2, PRINCE2 Foundation, INCOSE ASEP) are welcomed but not required.
  • A willingness to work towards professional development and certification
