What You'll Do

Under general supervision, the Simulation Operations & Technology Specialist (ICST2) provides comprehensive operational, technical, and logistical support for healthcare education skills labs and simulation environments. The primary responsibility of this position is to prepare, operate, maintain, clean, reset, and dismantle instructional labs and equipment to ensure faculty can successfully deliver scheduled healthcare instruction.

Essential Function- Lab Preparation & Maintenance

Tasks include:

  • Set up, break down, clean, and reset healthcare skills labs and simulation spaces for scheduled faculty-led instruction.
  • Prepare rooms, equipment, supplies, and furnishings according to established checklists and faculty-provided requirements.
  • Clean and disinfect manikins, task trainers, equipment, and lab spaces between uses in accordance with health and safety standards.
  • Configure, store, and maintain simulation manikins, task trainers, audiovisual systems, and related instructional technology using documented procedures.
  • Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs; identify equipment issues and communicate repair or replacement needs to the Simulation Lab Manager.
  • Maintain inventories of supplies, linens, and equipment; report restocking or purchasing needs.
  • Ensure lab, storage, and preparation areas are orderly, secure, and ready for scheduled use.
  • Maintain operational documentation, logs, asset records, and basic database updates.

Essential Function: Simulation Session Operations & Faculty Support

Tasks include:

  • Operate simulation equipment, software, and audiovisual systems during scheduled student classes and training sessions.
  • Support faculty during live skills labs and simulations by operating equipment, voicing scenarios as directed, and managing technical timing.
  • Prepare and remove moulage, environmental elements, and simulation settings to support realism.
  • Provide real-time troubleshooting for routine technical issues during sessions and communicate issues promptly.
  • Follow established simulation workflows, safety protocols, and operational standards.
  • Support simulation-based patient safety, quality improvement, and systems-based learning activities as directed by faculty.

Essential Function: Other Tasks include

  • Demonstrates multicultural competence (including an awareness and understanding of historically disadvantaged populations) and creates an educational and work environment that affirms commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
  • Change, launder, and restock linens and reusable materials.
  • Complete required documentation, reports, and logs.
  • Attend meetings, required trainings, and job-related professional development.
  • Pick up supplies and make deliveries as needed.

Requirements

Do you have experience in Technical Proficiency?, Do you have a Trade school?, * Comfort supporting (but not designing, administering, or independently modifying) technical systems and instructional resources in healthcare education and simulation environments.

  • Ability to diagnose and resolve routine hardware, software, and system-integration issues using structured troubleshooting methods, and to recognize and appropriately escalate issues outside the role's scope.
  • Ability to set up, operate, maintain, store, and reset simulation manikins, task trainers, AV systems, and related equipment using established configurations and procedures.
  • Ability to support faculty during live skills labs and simulations by operating equipment, providing real-time technical assistance, and responding to time-sensitive needs.
  • Experience preparing and restoring realistic lab and simulation environments, including equipment readiness, environmental setup, and application/removal of moulage or props as assigned.
  • Ability to consistently follow documented policies, SOPs, simulation workflows, and safety standards to ensure reliable, safe, and student-ready instructional environments.
  • Strong organizational skills, including managing supplies, linens, and equipment; maintaining cleanliness and readiness; and working efficiently in a shared, high-use environment.
  • Ability to maintain accurate documentation, inventories, logs, checklists, and operational records, and to clearly document actions taken and outcomes.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills to explain technical issues, document resolutions, and interact professionally with faculty, students, and staff in public-facing instructional settings.
  • Willingness to learn new systems and procedures; comfort taking direction and adjusting priorities to meet institutional needs; and ability to work respectfully with individuals from diverse backgrounds in alignment with institutional policies and ethical standards., * Associate's Degree in Information Technology, Simulation Technology, Biomedical Sciences, Instruction, Theater Production, or a related field AND
  • Two (2) years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience demonstrating technical aptitude and readiness to learn in a structured environment
  • Experience supporting technical education, healthcare operations, patient safety, quality improvement, or systems-based objectives in industry, clinical, or academic healthcare settings
  • Must be able to work flexible hours, including evening and weekend hours
  • Certified Healthcare Simulation Operations Specialist (CHSOS) certification OR
  • Willingness to obtain within 3 years of hire
