Job description
As a Chapter Lead Data & BI in the IT department of Hendrix Genetics, you are responsible for guiding, coaching and developing your 9 direct reports of the Data & BI chapter. You are also actively involved in hands-on work as a member of a squad, a cross-functional Agile team that works together on a specific product or domain, follows a shared backlog and delivers value through regular Scrum ceremonies. You ensure the chapter has the right capabilities, knowledge and standards to support our data landscape and the technologies we use.
You play a key role in cultivating a healthy, effective engineering culture, supporting chapter members who work across various squads and ensuring alignment with architectural and governance guidelines. Alongside your leadership role, you contribute directly to delivering robust data solutions, pipelines, models and BI products that enable the business to make data-driven decisions.
Responsibilities
Your responsibilities span several key areas: people leadership, data engineering and business intelligence.
People & Leadership
- Coach and develop chapter members through regular 1:1s, feedback and performance reviews
- Maintain chapter standards such as consistent data engineering practices, BI guidelines, architecture and governance rules and support members working across squads
- Encourage collaboration and effective ways of working within and between squads
Data Engineering
- Build and maintain secure, reliable and scalable data pipelines
- Ensure data quality, consistency and accessibility for consumers
- Contribute to prototypes and larger Azure-based data initiatives
- Work closely with other IT teams such as Data Architecture, Platform Admins and Security to ensure solutions follow platform, governance and Lakehouse standards.
Business Intelligence
- Define and maintain BI and reporting standards
- Manage and optimize the Power BI environment
- Support squads in consistent and effective use of BI tools, ensuring alignment with data architecture and governance principles
Requirements
Do you have experience in Scrum?, Do you have a Bachelor's degree?, You are a hands-on data professional with strong leadership skills. You enjoy helping people grow while contributing directly to data and BI solutions. You communicate clearly and understand how to balance people, process and technology., * Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field or equivalent experience
- 5+ years of experience in data engineering, data science or data architecture
- Experience leading or coaching technical teams
- Solid understanding of modern data platforms (Data Lake, Lakehouse, Medallion, Kimball)
- Knowledge of operational data engineering (stability, monitoring, data quality)
- Experience working in an Agile (preferably Scrum) environment
- Good understanding of data modeling and data structures
