Job description

As a pioneer in sustainable animal breeding and genetics company, we are looking for a Genetics Platform Data Engineer to contribute to our business growth and support the day-to-day operations to shape the future of animal protein production in partnership with Research and Development teams.

You'll join our Genetic Platform Engineering Chapter working closely with leading experts in the field, you will design and implement solutions to help our breeders and researchers to ensure accuracy and reliability of animals data. Being the link between IT and R&D teams, you will create and deliver tailor-made workflows to boost our breeding and research processes.

In this position, you will bring substantial IT solutions and programming skills to build up our animal genetics expertise. Our team members have knowledge of data analysis and business requirements analysis to develop a clear understanding of the business needs and to incorporate these needs into technical solutions. You will work in a dynamic, multicultural team environment, contributing across the software development life cycle. The role requires a solid understanding of database design principles and how these are applied in practice, as well as the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues from diverse backgrounds., * Translation of database driven programs (PL-SQL) towards Delta Lake implementation (Python);

  • Integrate new systems and techniques in timely manner into the workflow setup to enable users to use these new mechanisms in a robust way (Python preferred, sometimes PL-SQL required);
  • Actively promote new techniques to solve complex data problems, ensure scalability, efficiency and reliability in all data operations and maintain data integrity;
  • Support current breeding applications as specialist, troubleshoot issues and addressing problems;
  • Identify business and R&D needs and translate those in technical requirements, being the point of contact as a technical team member to drive analysis, propose solutions and validate the implementation;
  • Contributes actively for analytical solutions, leveraging best practices and optimization of data pipelines, databases, and components;

Requirements

  • Full-time
  • At least 2 years of experience (Junior level)
  • Bachelor degree
  • IT, * You have a bachelor's or master's degree in Computer Science, Biology, Animal Science or related areas of expertise;
  • Good experience working with relational databases using advances SQLK, prefably Oracle knowledge;
  • Procedural programming experience, preferably Oracle knowledge (Pl-SQL);
  • Experience with Python function oriented;
  • Experience working with large scale data scenarios e.g. years of animal measurements;
  • Knowledge of data modelling and understanding of different data structures and their benefits and limitations under particular use cases;
  • Previous experience with coding principles and in CI/CD (DevOps, Jenkins) or similar tools;
  • Demonstrated experience with Agile, Spotify or similar framework.

Preferred skills (nice to have)

  • Experience with Databricks platform and Azure Cloud environment;
  • Knowledge in different programming or scripting languages such as Bash, R or Python;
  • Knowledge of (animal) breeding and genetics and specifically related software.
