About the role:

We're building the next generation of AI-powered design systems that enable our teams to move faster, design smarter, and deliver experiences that are consistent, accessible, and beautifully crafted at scale.

As a Sr. Principal Product Designer, Design Systems, you'll shape how design and technology come together at Gen. You'll build the foundations that enable product designers, engineers, and content designers to work with clarity, speed, and creativity. You'll also help define how AI enhances our design workflows, using automation and adaptive tools to elevate the designer experience.

This is a hands-on role focused on creating and evolving design system components and patterns that empower designers to elevate the visual and interaction layer across our products. You'll craft high-quality UI components, refine interaction patterns, and ensure they're built for real-world implementation through close partnership with engineering. We're looking for someone who loves sweating the details while keeping a systems-level view of how everything connects.

What You'll Do:

• Evolve our design system: Define, design, and maintain the core components, patterns, and guidelines that ensure consistency and scalability across Gen's ecosystem.
• Leverage AI to accelerate design: Explore how generative AI can power smarter workflows-such as component generation, token management, design QA, and accessibility checks.
• Design for designers: Create experiences, tools, and documentation that make it easier and more enjoyable for product designers to build high-quality work.
• Collaborate deeply: Partner with product design, engineering, brand, and research to align on standards, accessibility, and implementation across platforms.
• Drive adoption: Advocate for best practices, create clear communication channels, and help teams integrate the design system into their daily workflow.
• Prototype and experiment: Test new AI-powered capabilities that streamline design processes and enhance creativity without sacrificing quality.

• Exceptional design craft with a strong portfolio in visual interface design, showcasing expertise in scaling visual and motion design concepts across different applications and platforms
• Experience with design tokens, component libraries, and documentation platforms (Figma, Storybook, Zeroheight, Supernovaetc.).
• Curiosity and practical understanding of how AI tools (e.g., generative design, code suggestions, or intelligent automation) can enhance design and collaboration.
• Empathy for the designer experience-understanding their pain points and designing tools and processes that make their work better.
• Proven experience building or evolving large-scale design systems for digital products.
• Strong communication and facilitation skills with cross-functional partners in design, engineering, and product.
• Experience in cybersecurity, fintech, or other complex ecosystems is helpful, but not required.
