Job description

As an "Academy Scientist", this position is understood as a scientific support activity at the interface between IT/software and science.

Your tasks:

Communication and administration:

  • Manage and coordinate the software development and IT administration team (currently three staff members, including management).
  • Function as the institute's Data Protection Officer, providing technical and professional guidance in cooperation with the OeAW central offices and preparing the required documentation.
  • Collaboration with the Academy's central computing center (ARZ).
  • Support the institute's external representation.
  • Contribute to the technical maintenance and conceptual development of the institute's website; create selected content in coordination with the ISF PR officer.
  • IT administration, including user management, maintenance of institute servers, and data backup management.
  • Development and implementation of IT concepts (security, storage allocation, laboratory infrastructure, etc.).
  • Internal IT helpdesk, general user support, and assistance.
  • Administrative IT-related tasks such as planning and supporting procurements, workstation maintenance, inventory management, etc. (in cooperation with the Institute's administration).

Science

  • Implementation of scientific models and methods.
  • Support in research data management for scientific projects.
  • Support of Open Science and Reproducible Research initiatives.
  • Independent scientific research activities in the field of acoustics.

Requirements

  • Doctorate (PhD) or equivalent professional experience in a relevant discipline.
  • Experience in signal processing and machine learning in the field of audio/acoustics.
  • Programming experience, particularly in Python and/or MATLAB.
  • Knowledge of Linux and/or Active Directory.
  • Experience in IT administration.
  • Interest in working in a scientific/research environment.
  • Fluency in German and proficiency in English.
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills, with effective time management abilities.
  • Excellent self-organization and responsible team leadership capabilities., PhD or equivalent

  • Workplace in a central downtown location with flexible working hours (flextime model) and partly possible to work from home.

  • A gross annual salary in accordance with the collective agreement, starting at €70,167.44.

The position starts on 01.09.2026 with an initial fixed-term contract of 12 months, with the possibility of extension. In line with the OeAW career path, Academy Scientists may apply for tenure assessment in coordination with the Head of Institute.
